Karakusevic Carson Architects are award-winning designers at the forefront of social and public housing and the delivery of complex local authority, public housing and estate renewal projects.

We are a design and strategy-led practice, formed with the sole intent of raising standards in social housing design and public buildings. Since the practice’s founding, we have a world-leading body of social and public housing work which demonstrates a track record and commitment to delivering high-quality homes, expressed through generous layouts, elegant materiality & beautiful, robust detailing. Our work is underpinned by a dedication to putting communities at the heart of the design process, as well as an exemplary research, lecturing, and publishing program, an innovative approach to developing new typologies, & overall culture of craftmanship and collaboration. We have worked with other world-renowned architects in the UK, Europe, and the USA, and have also pioneered collaborations with the next generation of talented young practices in London.

As experts at making difficult projects happen, we successfully design for and navigate project complexities to create exemplary housing and beautiful public buildings that reflect a unique sense of place and can stand the test of time. Current work includes major housing estate transformations, including strategic infill housing, masterplanning, and extensive refurbishment and retrofit of 1950s, ‘60s, and ‘70s modernist housing to provide extended, resilient building lifespans and energy efficient homes that residents love.

We win all of our work through selective public sector design competitions, and are appointed to the London GLA Architecture + Urbanism Framework, as well as Homes England and leading Housing Association frameworks. Over the past 5 years the practice has been appointed by leading city housing authorities in Toronto and New York to design a new era of public housing in North America.

Our projects have won numerous major design awards, and our work has been published regularly by leading architectural publications and national and international press including the Guardian, the Times, the Observer, the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal, recognizing our industry-leading advocacy for, and the design of, world-class social and public housing.
