LDA Design is a collective of placemakers – landscape architects, strategists, planners, urban designers, masterplanners and environmental consultants – who aim to shape the world for the better. We are proud to be 100 percent employee owned. People and planet need our care, so we don’t shy away from the big issues of the day. Our secret is to start at the end, by asking, ‘What’s the change you want to see?’

Starting at the end means the best outcomes from a project can be collectively imagined. Asking a big question of all those involved and affected helps us to understand context and take account of different perspectives and dimensions. It means listening closely to communities, clients and partners to reach consensus and to find the bigger wins.

LDA Design grew from the idealism of the new town movement and the craft of landscape architecture. We pioneered green infrastructure planning and environmental design. We still believe landscape to be an essential building block of place and a solution, and this strengthens all the services we offer.

Today, we’re placemakers who are still pioneering. We make the case for change, champion new approaches and have a voice that carries, sharing our learning with clients and partners. We take a holistic approach which recognises the close links between climate breakdown, biodiversity and ecosystem decline, and social and economic inequity, which damages health and wellbeing.

Keeping the bigger picture in mind also allows space for creativity and innovation. We want to evidence the impacts of what we do, so we draw on data to keep learning. This is critical because of the scale of the multiple crises that our projects need to address. This approach helps us to anticipate complexities and deliver the change that is wanted.

At LDA Design, we help to shape policy and design for a world that is healing, evolving, providing. A world where quality of life can rise without damaging the planet. A world where nature can regenerate, and take a place at the table. We create joyful places, where being happy comes easily. We deliver infrastructure that is rooted in good design. We are climate champions calling for a future rooted in renewable energy – an ally to this industry from the beginning.

LDA Design is 200-strong across eight studios. Our work takes us around the UK and overseas. Our employee ownership Charter encourages us to push boundaries, to bring our best selves to work and to believe in each other.
