The world’s towns and cities are getting denser, hotter, ever more congested. How we continue to grow them matters greatly. Protecting our connection to nature is needed now more than ever. Landscape holds the ring. It has the power to transform, to reveal the extraordinary; to connect old and new communities; to create sociable, welcoming places that work well.
The original meaning of the word landscape is to create a place where people belong. Landscape connects people and place, and knowing how people use space gives breadth and depth to our work as landscape architects, urban designers,
town planners and environmental planners.
A place is not a static thing. It is about memory, history, things beyond the site, a glimpsed view or seasonal change. By understanding the context of a site we can add value and encourage greater social interaction; we can make a place easier to navigate and fully connected to the wider community.

First Life

As a practice of urban designers and Landscape Architects we follow the principles of first life, then spaces, then buildings. Whether the project is a park, a new urban district, a port or even Battersea Power Station, we focus on the needs of people
affected. We then design spaces which create opportunities for chance encounter and exchange.
Our designers know how to ensure buildings support the social, economic and environmental functions of a place.
